Terms

Fair play

Last updated 2026-10-07

Chess960 is run by Nestor-Ivan Popko. By playing here you agree to these terms. They're short, because they're mostly about playing fair.

Play your own game

  • Make your own moves. No chess engines, other programs or other people helping you in a game against a person.
  • One player per person for rated games. Don't play yourself from a second browser to move a rating.
  • No bots or scripts against the game server, no flooding it, and no trying to break or get around its limits.

Accounts

  • An account is optional. Create one for yourself only, with an email address that's yours: one account per person.
  • Keep your password to yourself. What's done with your account counts as done by you.
  • Moderators may close an account that breaks these terms.

Be decent

  • No offensive, hateful or impersonating names, including names that pass for staff.
  • No harassing other players, inside a game or out of it.

If you see either, use Report next to the board, or email [email protected].

What we may do

We may rename a player, remove a rating or a game from the leaderboard, or ban a player who breaks these terms, usually without warning. If you think we got it wrong, email us.

The service

Chess960 is free and comes as it is. We work to keep it running, but it may change, pause or stop, and a game in progress can be lost when the server restarts. Ratings and leaderboards may be reset, for example when the rating system changes.

Changes

If these terms change, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Playing after that means you accept the new terms.
